With men on 1st & 3rd in the 4th inning an no outs, Moises Alou steps up to the plate with a chance to turn this game against the Braves around. On the third pitch, Alou does what he seems to do best: hits into a double play.
Sure a run scored, but the rally was over. This isn't the first time that Alou has done this nor was it the last. In the 7th inning with no outs and Delgado on first, Alou gets up again. The Mets are trailing 7-3 and looking for a rally. Alou again hits into a double play.
He's done this pretty much anytime someone's on first base since he returned. I know Alou is a free swinger and that's how he's always been, but give me a fly ball at least.
Now Alou is no excuse for the Mets loss last night. Oliver Perez had trouble and actually seemed to be pitching too many balls right down the heart of the plate.
Last night was a game the Mets needed as they now have to face Smoltz and Hudson. A win tonight would do wonders for the ballclub's morale.
But if Alou gets up with no outs and runners on the corner, I might have to leave the room.
