Carlos Beltran, thank you. If you didn’t see the game, Beltran made one of the greatest catches you will ever see to save the game for the Mets. He then got a long overdue clutch hit in the top of the 17th to give the Mets the lead, which Wagner closed down in the bottom of the inning.
I did not see the first 10 innings of this game as I was in NYC spending time with family. Most of my updates were coming from my blackberry so I didn’t have a feel for what was happening in the game, which was probably a blessing in disguise, because the Mets offense sounded painfully inept once again. That ineptitude carried over into extra innings where I was able to watch the game. So many opportunities wasted. It was frustrating watching them inning after inning not being able to produce anything.
Then in the 14th, Carlos Beltran made the play of the year. With two men on, two outs, he runs down a ball hit deep to center, runs up the hill, and while falling down, reaches out to his right and snatches t he ball out of the air. You will see this play over and over again. It was truly mind-boggling.
Credit has to go to the bullpen for throwing up 0 after 0. And Aaron Sele, a forgotten player, did a tremendous job throwing 2 scoreless innings to earn just his second win of the year. By the way, I'm really starting to like Rubin Gotay...would like to see him get some more playing time.
This was a huge win. Lose this game, and doubt really starts to creep in. But they showed guts, hung in there, and pulled this out. I am still concerned by the lack of hitting, especially with men on base, and in scoring position, but you have to feel good about winning this game.
Whew…what a catch…still can’t believe he caught that ball.

I watched all 17 innings and the most painful part was how many runners we left on base. I'm really happy for Beltran who was a dreadful 0 for 6 before his game winning hit. Let's close it out with a win on Sunday.
