California is a great state to visit, but I hate it when the Mets go there. It seems that the West Coast road trips are usually a significant setback for the Mets. I don't know if it's the time change, the sunshine, or the amusement parks, but something happens when the Mets head to sunny California that ends up with them losing.
Last year was the one exception that I can think of. Of course that West Coast road trip started with a series in the Mets favorite home away from home, Arizona, and then just carried them through to California on a 10 game winning streak.
But this year, as we all know, is not last year. The NL West was once a laughing stock of a division, but now they're packed with solid pitching. In San Diego, we'll face Young & Peavy, and then against the Dodgers chances are we'll go up against Brad Penny. The Mets have also had a horrible time against the Dodger bullpen.
So this is the unofficial turning point of the Mets season. With the Braves only a game and a half out of first the Mets, at the very least, need to win both series.
Looks like a lot of late nights are in my future for this week. Lets Go Mets.
