The Big Picture

Sure the Mets lost 2 of 3 to the Yankees. Sure they ended their magical 8 game win streak. Sure the Mets offense was absent for most of the weekend. But you have to look at the big picture.

The Mets just went 7-2 on a 9 game road trip. That's rare. In fact I can't remember the last time the Mets played that well on the road. We would all like the Mets to win every game they play, but that's just not a realistic outcome.

I'm pretty satisfied with the way this team is playing right now. And now they get to come home for a 6 game home stand and with an off day have a chance to rest.

Santana might not be what he used to be. Bay may be struggling. And KRod is Pray Rod. But if you've followed this team for the last few years (or the last 20) you have to like what the 2010 Mets are doing.

I never thought I'd have that kind of outlook after dropping 2 out of 3 to the Yanks, but I do.

Do you think that Carlos Beltran will make a difference when he returns?

My only real negative, is the trend i see. I mean losing two outta three to the yanks, not so worried about, but this is the trend that bothers me....

last winning streak we go into a big series against the Phils. Win game one. Lose game two...not so disheartening, as we can't expect to win every game against teams like the phils and yanks, but we go into game three with our ace on the mound, a chance to continue our mometum and win a big series, and, well, Johan fails....a month later, another winning streak doused and another chance to keep the momentum by winning a big series against a big opponent with our ace on the mound...and...well...Johan Fails.

He's our ace, this is why he is here. Sure maybe the whole team needs to learn to step up in these spots, sure he got no run support, sure it was an infield hit and botched defense on a sac bunt that led to the grand slam, and sure, the grand slam was Tex, who let's face it, is gonna win sometimes, but still that's twice in as many months that our ace or our team w our ace on the mound has failed in the big spot.

other than that, i am happy.

Oh and NJ...my biggest problem is this in the Beltran situation, Who's gonna sit? Pagan? He's been one of our best players. Of course i wasn't the biggest proponent of signing someone like Bay to a big contract in the off-season, as i said then, why not let Pagan play? Not that this is a bad problem to have, unless of course you are the mets, because history has shown the Mets will play Bay and Beltran when he returns, despite what might actually be the best lineup.
