New Year's Resolution for a Mets Lifer

At the beginning of a new year it is often a good time to reflect on what has happened over the last twelve months and how you can improve in the next twelve months. Here are some new year's resolutions for this Mets Lifer.
  1. Stop being so surprise when Willie Randolph doesn't put on the squeeze play with Reyes or Chavez on third base with less than 2 outs.
  2. Quit praying for Chipper Jones to be hit in the head every time he comes to the plate
  3. Start praying for Chipper Jones to be hit in the back every time he comes to the plate
  4. Start having faith in the Mets bullpen
  5. Teach my eldest son to memorize the Mets starting lineup
  6. Turn my Armando Benitez voodoo doll into a Jimmy Rollins voodoo doll
  7. Learn to spell Schoenweis (sp?) without having to look it up
  8. Suppress my anger when away games on SNY aren't in HD
  9. Don't order my custom Mets Johan Santana jersey. . .yet
  10. Never forget what Tom Glavine did as a Met
Here's to a successful 2008 Mets season.

Did anyone ask the Mets if our season has come. . .again?

Stats of the Day

With the Mets welcoming the Braves to Shea tonight and Perez & Hudson facing off, I found two interesting stats that should come into play into tonight's ball game.

Stat #1
Larry (Chipper) Jones is 7-for-18 (.389) with a home run in his career versus Perez.

The only answer to this is to hit Chipper in the head every time he comes to the plate. Problem solved.

Stat #2
Carlos Beltran is batting .354 (17-for-48) with three home runs in his career against Hudson.

If Reyes, Castillo and Wright can get on base early, I fully expect Beltran to have a big game. I'd really like to see Reyes break out of his slump against the Braves. We need him on base to succeed in the long run. Even though we've been winning during this slump, we all know it can't continue if Reyes is not the catalyst the Mets need him to be.

The Hit in the Head List

The Mets, more than any team in baseball, need a hit in the head list. This is a list of batters that consistently destroy your team so instead of letting them hit, you should just hit them in the head every time they get up to the plate because the alternative is that they destroy you once again.

Here's the list I've compiled ranked in order of importance focusing specifically on the NL East:

1. Chipper Jones
2. Pat Burrell
3. Hanley Ramirez
4. Jimmy Rollins
5. Ryan Zimmerman

Of course Roger Clemens would be on this list, but it turns out the Mets have actually done pretty well against him. I'm just sick and tired of the same guys beating us when we know it's coming.

Pat Burrell was a foot away from crushing a grand slam against the Mets on Wednesday night and he homered the night before. Does no one else see it coming except me? Hit 'em in the head. Let him take the base and deal with the next guy.

Let us know if you've got some Met killers to add to the list.
