A Century of Disappointment

Think you're feeling down as a Mets fan because we didn't make the playoffs for a second straight year? Cheer up! At least you're not a Cubs fan.
A team that looked as if they were guaranteed a spot in the World Series ran into Manny and the boys from L.A. and got swept. It's bad enough that they lost, but to lose twice in your own building and then get swept is just devastating.

That makes it over 100 years since the Cubs have won the World Series. The Mets last won in 1986 which seems like eons ago, but that's nothing compared to a century's worth of coming up short.

I feel for you Cubs fans. I just wouldn't want to be you.

Masters of Choke

We are the Mets and we are the Masters of Choke.

Tonight, we witnessed one of the worst defeats in regular season history for this organization. And there have been some awful ones let me tell you.

This loss will be so devastating that we will look back on the 2008 season and point to this game as the turning point in the season. Sure we're only 1 game out with 60+ to play, but I guarantee you, the Mets will fail to make the playoffs. Why? Because we have mastered the art of the choke job. When you can't close out a 3 run lead in the last inning of a game that will put you in sole position of first place - not too mention put an enormous amount of doubt into the heads of your bitter rival - you are what is commonly referred to as Chokers. Period. This game is going to do wonders for the Phillies psyche. Thank you bullpen for making it all happen.

Can you believe they threw up on that game? I mean, really. The Phillies had no business winning that game. Yet somehow, our beloved NY Mets found another creative way to shred the hearts of Mets Lifers everywhere. I know other organizations have suffered more than the Mets and have endured more heartache, but that's only because this team hasn't been around as long as the others. We haven't as many opportunities to blow chunks of cheese but we're sure taking advantage of the chances we get don't we? Ladies and gentlemen, we are quickly becoming the Pre-2004 Boston Red Sox, the Chicago Cubs. We are the new Masters of Choke and that, Mets Lifers, is a very scary thought. I'm not sure how many more of these mind-numbing defeats I can take.

Finally

18 hits! 12 runs! Finally the Mets enjoyed a laugher today as they pounded Brewers' pitching and remarkably went 9-12 with two outs and runners in scoring position. This was vintage Mets baseball. It's been a while since we've seen this kind of display and I have to say, it feels good.

I'm not going to get too excited because I've been burned too many times this season, but you have to give credit to this team for taking the last two games and ultimately the series. Milwaukee is a tough place to play and for the Mets to bounce back from a heartbreaking defeat Tuesday is a true testament of their resiliency. They showed they had guts and really put a thumping on the Brewers.

Tomorrow, the Mets are off the Chicago to play the first place Cubbies. It won't be easy as we face a red hot Carlos Zamrbano, going for his 15th win of the season.

I hate day games during the week. Thankfully, there's always MLB radio to stream the broadcast through the computer.
